Dawn of the Apocalypse - Peer Feedback

  • When the infected (Rudi Sampat) faces the main character (Steven Nye) there is no sense of threat, we could show the threat by having a slow zoom in, which came to an extreme close up of his eyes.
  • Our focus group liked the gun movement, they said it seemed realistic and well done. They also liked the Gun sound and said it was well edited and well timed.
  • The focus group we showed our film said that the opening camera work was good with the slow pull away, but when the main character is on the ground some saw it more that he was dead than hurt. Although when he gets up it seemed it was a shock to our viewers.
  • Some of the group said it would be more believe able if we brought in another infected to be dead in the background.
  • The infected running seems to robotic or human - didn't seem he was infected, we could have the infected running in a more animistic fashion.
  • When the main character notices infected some said there wasn't enough sense of fear, we could do this by zooming in on his face slowly getting his whole face in the frame then back to the infected.
  • The titles seemed too squashed could of separated the actors and cinematography into 4 seperate frames.

Dawn of the Apocalypse - Teaser

As we have now finished filming and in the final stages of editing, we decided to give everyone a quick snapshot of the film. The image is of an 'infected'...
As you can see we used the Special effects wax to create Rudi's head wound and added fake blood to make it seem realistic. In hind-sight we should of made him seem more infected, by scruffing up his clothes and hair making it look like he was in a fight or that he had been attacked by someone. If we ever do another infected-apocalypse related project we will take more care to increase the realism of the infected and the survivor.

Dawn of the Apocalypse - Make up And Special Effects - Update

We went on to the website, www.amazon.co.uk, and ordered a special effects kit which included moulding wax, spatula, cake blood, dark gel blood, sponge and a guide to help us. it cost us £10.28 in total.
I also have a BB gun that looks fairly realistic that we are going to use as a prop.  We have another back-up gun that we can use if needed. We have found some hand cuffs that we can buy for the opening scene.

Dawn of the Apocalypse - Location possibilites

We all went out to look for possible filming locations and we took pictures of each of the possible locations.

The park is a good location to film, however there may be a problem when filming on saturday or sunday because there might be football players training there.

These are the opening times for the park which is the first possible location.

This location could be used, it is normally fairly deserted but there is a dual carriageway below this bridge which may cause some unwanted sound to be picked up on the video. However I may be able to edit the sound and remove this noise.
